DANVILLE — Chambers Memorial Hospital has added an IV infusion center to offer services locally.
The infusion center has been added due to a partnership with Community Infusion Solutions (CIS).
“The center, which will be managed by CIS’ staff of care coordinators in conjunction with Chambers Memorial nursing staff, aims to see approximately 60 IV infusion patients locally who are currently forced to drive to Fort Smith, Russellville, Conway or even Little Rock for weekly infusions of medicines for diabetes, cancer, kidney disease, and many other chronic illnesses,” Melissa Flynn with CIS said.
Flynn said the drive may deter patients from receiving infusions at all. Patients will then be admitted to the emergency room due to the lack of infusions.
This is common with rural hospitals without the infusion centers.
“If you can imagine that cycle, we’ve got a lot of sick people,” she said. “You’ve got a lot of people who can’t afford to drive or don’t feel well enough. Then, it takes money out of the economy.”
Case managers work with hospital staff members to coordinate each patients’ information.
The IV infusion center opened in early August.
“As we continually look at potential new services to serve our community and market, we believe adding infusion services will provide a needed service for our patients and will prevent them from having to travel to other facilities for these services,” Mike McCoy, CEO of Chambers Memorial Hospital, said.
Community Infusion Solutions is a public health organization that creates IV infusion centers and focuses on remote infusion services.
